The girls and I returned to Austin this weekend after being gone for 2 weeks. Leila was so happy to see her Daddy! She gave him the biggest hug I've ever seen her give anyone. It was really sweet. My family came up to Austin for Labor day with me. We had a big bbq planned and were going to also celebrate my sister's birthday, but she didn't make it up because she's been fighting this horrible cold that just wont stop! It ended up being my family, my parents, my Uncle Greg and his family and my grandfather. Saturday we all went to The Saltlick for lunch. This place is probably the best bbq in Texas! Sunday we all got together at my grandfather's house up in Lakeway. We had a bbq pit set up and grilled some burgers and dogs. My dad whipped up some grilled peppers for the burgs that was to die for! Good job Dad!! We ate so much food then sat around watching some football and playing Trivial Pursuit. All the extended family went back to Houston Monday morning, but my parents stayed an extra day. Monday was chore day! Dad had promised me that he would help me build a gate (aka he would be me a gate--I wasn't much help!!) for our fence that had fallen down LAST YEAR during Ike! So we spent the day in the garage fixing stuff and cleaning stuff. We set up Leila's pool and water table and hung out outside all day.
Now everyone is gone and it is just us and the girls. Leila is such a big girl these days. She is extremely opinionated and will fight for what she wants! This isn't always fun because she doesn't have enough words to express what she wants so it usually ends up with a lot of whines and screams. For the most part though she is a sweet girl. She is learning a lot of new words everyday. Her favorite is "what's that", but it comes out more like "zat". She has mastered all of her body parts and pretty much all of her animal sounds, they don't all roar anymore! Her new thing now is jumping, or Leila's version of a jump. She bends her knees then pops up really fast while raising her hands over her head and usually one foot comes up off the floor. It is really funny. She is very proud of her jumping skills.
Emmie is getting bigger by the day. I don't think we will have any weight gain issues with this girl like we did with her sister. She eats like a champ and even has little rolls on her thighs! It's the cutest thing. She is starting to be awake more during the day so we get to play with her more often. She is getting really good at holding her head up. During tummy time she will lift her head and look all around. She is also smiling a lot. She has such a cute gummy smile. I thought that her eyes would turn brown since they were so dark when she was born, but I might be wrong. They are looking lighter
and lighter all the time.
